A life skills Award for primary-aged children. Created by a primary teacher with 27 years experience. Seven progressive primary levels, each with a booklet explaining ten life skills challenges. On completion, children are awarded their well-earned certificate and metal badge. This is then followed by two 'online' levels of the Award, called the Senior Duke. This is for S1 and S2 pupils to take them up to the age they may begin their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award. No cost to the school. Cost incurred by the families wanting to take part. All 'how to' videos are available for staff to explain:

  • the ethos of the Award,
  • how to tell the staff,
  • how to tell the pupils (assembly plan and video),
  • how to sort the admin (VERY little admin!),
  • agendas for the occasional Duke meeting in school house or year groups etc.

It is suggested that this is done mostly at home rather than being added to an already full curriculum. Only the assessing need be done in school by staff. This has resulted in numerous positive parental comments as well as many helpful, skilful grandparents teaching their grandchildren to knit, cook and bake! It also really helps for report writing as it gives a rounded picture of the child.
